THIS MOMENTOUS DAY!

Not one day in anyone’s life is an uneventful day, no day without profound meaning, no matter how dull and boring it might seem, no matter whether you are a seamstress or a queen, a shoeshine boy or a movie star, a renowned philosopher or a Down’s syndrome child.

Because in every day of your life, there are opportunities to perform little kindnesses for others, both by conscious acts of will and unconscious example.

Each smallest act of kindness – even just words of hope when they are needed, the remembrance of a birthday, a compliment that engenders a smile – reverberates across great distances and spans of time, affecting lives unknown to the one whose generous spirit was the source of this good echo, because kindness is passed on and grows each time it’s passed, until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage years later and far away.

Likewise, each small meanness, each thoughtless expression of hatred, each envious and bitter act, regardless of how petty, can inspire others, and is therefore the seed that ultimately produces evil fruit, poisoning people whom you have never met and never will.

All human lives are so profoundly and intricately entwined – those dead, those living, those generations yet to come – that the fate of all is the fate of each, and the hope of humanity rests in every heart and in every pair of hands.

Therefore, after every failure, we are obliged to strive again for success, and when faced with the end of one thing, we must build something new and better in the ashes, just as from pain and grief, we must weave hope, for each of us is a thread critical to the strength – the very survival – of the human tapestry.

Every hour in every life contains such often-unrecognized potential to affect the world that the great days for which we, in our dissatisfaction, so often yearn are already with us; all great days and thrilling possibilities are combined always in THIS MOMENTOUS DAY! – Rev. H.R. White

Excerpt from Dean Koontz’s book, “From the Corner of His Eye”.

It embodies the idea of how the smallest of acts can have such a profound effect on each of our lives.

– Rev. H.R. White

In spite the odds, health care is very important. It's one consolation for life's hard work especially to the lowly workers.

The President explained his position on Afghanistan in an interview on 60 Minutes tonight. "There is not a speech that I’ve made that hit me in the gut as much as that speech. But I do think that it was important in that speech to recognize that there are costs to war. That this is a burden we don’t welcome. It’s one that was foisted on us as a consequence of 19 men deciding to kill thousands of Americans back in 2001.

Living as I do in the UK, I am very appreciative of the NHS. It is far from perfect, vastly overstretched and under-resourced. But we could do far worse than to use it as a model.

I was born and grew up on the States and I am well aware that the cost of healthcare there does not correspond with high quality of treatment.

Mind you, while I was at the Accident and Emergency department of my local hospital a couple of weeks ago waiting for treatment, I was speaking with a young woman from Holland who told me that the quality of their healthcare is far superior to that available here in Britain. But everyone has to pay a set amount of money every week to keep it going and keep it operating at its high standard. Are Americans ready to adopt that system?

Let's spend some of those bail out billions and get busy harnessing this energy. Create cheap clean energy, badly needed new jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. What a win-win situation that would be for our nation at large! There is a really good new book out by Jeff Wilson called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence Now. http://www.themanhattanprojectof2009.com

Well Anders you might have a point. But remember Switzerland is also a country with deep valleys and high mountains, and you might say they are clandinized in some way, but they have a well developed democracy anyway. This takes time, and if development in infrastructure, social care etc can superseed the clan society it might work - in 20-30 years or so.....

Thanks so much Adrianne for uploading this. We can never be sure of where will find the next crop of Obama's. In Toulouse, Vienna, Stockholm, in politics or in business or both. Hopefully with this cyberspace technology it will be much harder to overlook these shinning Obama stars in the future.

Hi Jack,

I hear your anger, and understand it. But my own anger is directed elsewhere - it's a disgrace that Republicans have allowed so many Americans to go uninsured for so long. A disgrace that the number has risen so much over the past 8 years. A disgrace that Americans pay twice as much for their health care as most other Western countries.

Whatever it takes to fix this travesty - that's what we need to do. If we allowed ourselves to harm the chances for an improved healthcare system for the sake of defending one of our own we'd be as guilty as the Republicans are.

I'm saying, we need to be in this for the long haul and stay focussed on the big issues. As much as I thought Tom Daschle was the right guy for the job, the job matters more than the guy. It's going to be a long 4 years, and Obama's going to lose some battles. Our job is to make sure he wins the big ones.

Karin

Thanks for trying to log me into the site. When I learn how to upload the video clip link of the Toulouse inaugural party I will put it on, so that our stateside buddies can compare and contrast our French Toulousian demographics of our party with those of other cities. Peace, Angela

Karin

I AM SO ANGRY!

Tom Daschle, and Nancy Killefer are two of the finest, and most competent public servants you could possibly hope for in these appointments. They have been assassinated by the Washington healthcare lobby through their paid Bush Republican henchmen in congress. These Bush republicans are the same people blocking the economic recovery plan put forth by the Obama administration.

I am BURNING MAD America. And you should be too. Tome Daschle and Nancy Killefer were exactly what we needed to help turn this country around and fix our economy, and catastrophic healthcare crisis.

If I were their boss I would tell them to get right back to Washington. And dare congress to not approve them. How ridiculous is it to reject highly qualified people that this country needs just because they made a mistake on their taxes. Don't stand for that anymore America. They apologized, and paid their taxes, and that should be it. Their country needs them. But President Obama has to do what he thinks is best. I understand that. I'M JUST SO MAD at the anti American Bush Republicans.

Like many of you I have been trying to enjoy the after glow of this Beautiful historic election. But I see that the republicans in congress and their cohorts aren't going to be good sports, and LOSER'S!

SO BE IT!

In spite of President Obama's repeated offers, and gestures of collegiality to Republicans. Bush Republicans have seized upon every opportunity to stab President Obama in the back. And by doing so they are stabbing you, and the rest of the American people in the back. Well, you don't have to put up with that. And you shouldn't put up with that. President Obama has only been on the job two weeks. And he inherited two wars, and the worst economy since the great depression.

We had an election. And president Obama, and the democrats won BIG. And Bush Republicans lost miserably!

The Bush Republicans are the ones responsible for the worst economic crisis since the great depression. And the Bush Republicans are responsible for the worst healthcare crisis in American history. A healthcare crisis that is killing hundreds of thousands of you every year. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Insured, and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies.

President Obama, and the Democrats should take back all the concessions they granted the Bush Republicans, and tell them to put up! or shut up!

Everyone, start calling and contacting these Bush Republicans and tell them to stop blocking President Obama, and the Democrats recovery plan. And stop trying to block, and corrupt healthcare reform. Tell them to get on board with President Obama and the Democrats, or GET OUT!!

If these Bush Republicans refuse to cooperate I want all of you to immediately begin the process of removing them from office by every legal means possible. Including impeachment, and recall. I want you to bring the full weight and power of the movement down on their heads that swept President Obama, and the Democrats into control of the whitehouse, and congress. Take no prisoners. Use all the techniques you learned over this past historic election. Be flexible, creative, adaptable, and relentless like you were in the past.

To my cyber warriors I call on you again. You are among the best and the brightest. I call on you to move this fight from the cyber world to the living rooms, dens, and work places of the voters these Bush Republicans misrepresent. I know I can count on you. This is a fight worth fighting.

To my fellow World citizens. As an American I invite, and welcome you and your advise, input, and help. By delaying Americas recovery, and healthcare reform, these Bush Republicans are delaying our commitment to your recovery, and to being the better America for you that we aspire too.

I had hoped it would not come to this after our historic election. I had hoped that the Bush Republicans would respect the overpowering will of the people, and the World. But I guess not. All the Bush Republicans really care about is them-selves. Well, SO BE IT! Lets finish the job.

Sincerely

jacksmith --- Working Class :-)

Hej Christian, if you could have a conversation with President Obama and/or Secretary Clinton on South America, what specifically would you say? In light of the human rights conditions is there anything in particular that you would say needs addressing first?

Hi Jack,

As valid as your arguement may be I think we have to realize that Obama probably would not have gotten all of his "first" choices for appointees through. Now he can come back with equally good choices who will get appointed. Daschele and Killefer can be used in another capacity to reach the same goal.

Now that Obama appears to be a bit humbled perhaps our representativces can make their constituents happy by rolling up their sleeves and getting to work.

Obama is not going to win all of the battles, he must pick and choose. I think it's great that he is having "hiccups" now as to appease the massive egos of his detractors.

Hello, just wanted to say thanks for writing your account. One i appreciate being able to read stuff like this since i wasn't able to be there. And second i appreciate your recount of the positive change that is occurring. It's so easy for so many to stick to their cycnism and pessimism - I've heard my share of that. Thanks again and i hope you keep up your good work.
